Work for the Lord Christ

Do you ever find yourself being quick to dismiss your daily work as ordinary and sometimes meaningless? Even if we don’t say it like that out loud, many times, that’s how we think about our work or treat our tasks. It’s really hard to keep in mind that we’re not working for the approval of others because we really do want to find our work rewarding and fulfilling. We want to make an impact, we certainly don’t want all of our efforts to go unseen, and it would be especially helpful if someone would come along and tell us, “I see you and I value what you’re … [Read more...]

All of Christ For All of Your Life

As the Gospel progressively changes us individually, it progressively changes the world. 1 Corinthians 15:22-27 says, “For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.  For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For ‘God has put all things in subjection under his … [Read more...]

Dwell On What is True About God

As Christian women, we are called by God to take every thought captive to obey Christ and to train our minds to think rightly. But if you struggle to come up with your own original thoughts about God’s goodness to you, go to His word and rehearse His truth to your heart. Jeremiah, who was known as the weeping prophet, wrote this assurance of God’s goodness: “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:  The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The … [Read more...]

The Shepherds, the Light, and Us

I stood in the midnight silence, wrapped in a blanket, staring at the twinkling distance and watching a faint, shadowy light flickering across the sky.   The Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights, is a magnificent creation to behold.   This beauty is caused by particles in Earth’s atmosphere meeting particles released by the sun’s atmosphere. It’s a grand and glorious collision.       On nights like this, as much as I love sharing the experience with my family, I also don’t mind standing alone in complete darkness, … [Read more...]

I Made a New Friend

I made a new friend recently. Not the kind you meet at the park, play with, go your separate ways, and rarely see again.   No, it was the kind of friend that C.S. Lewis identified when he said, “Friendship ... is born at the moment when one man says to another "What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .”   This week, I made a “you, too” friend. I got together with someone I had encountered weekly but never actually spent meaningful time with. I had been tiptoeing around the idea of inviting her over for awhile, unsure if she would … [Read more...]
